About The Event

Have you ever wished you could consult someone to make sense of a discovery or break down a brick wall? Facebook groups allow you the opportunity to access the knowledge of many. Join us on May 15th at 1 p.m. CDT to learn how best to make use of this important resource at a virtual panel discussion on Jewish Genealogy Facebook Groups: A Valuable Resource in Family History Research. Schelly Talalay Dardashti will represent Tracing the Tribe-Jewish Genealogy on Facebook, and Jennifer Mendelsohn will represent Jewish DNA for Genetic Genealogy and Family Research.

Jennifer Mendelsohn is the administrator of Facebook's Jewish Genetic Genealogy group, with over 9000 members. A former Washington, DC-based special correspondent for People, her work has appeared in numerous local and national publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, Slate, and Time. Mendelsohn is also the creator of #resistancegenealogy, a project that uses genealogical and historical records to fight disinformation and honor America's immigrant past.

Schelly Talalay Dardashti, a journalist and genealogist, created Tracing the Tribe – Jewish Genealogy on Facebook (46,000+ members in 101 countries) in 2008. She is an award-winning Jewish genealogy columnist/blogger and is the US Genealogy Advisor for MyHeritage.com.  She speaks at many US and international events, including historical and genealogical societies, in the UK, Spain, Hong Kong, Australia, Israel and across the US and Canada.

The program will take place on-line via Zoom. Questions can be emailed to MNJGS at https://www.mnjgs.org/contact. The program is free for members, $5 for non-members. Payments can be made at https://www.mnjgs.org/support-us.
